Eala faced a two set sweep over the favorite Maia Lumsden in the second round of the qualifiers, 1-6, 5-7. In the first set, the 17-year-old Filipina was dominated by Lumsden in 1-6 thrashing but Eala fought back in the second set and gave the British Bet a run for her money when she fought back from 2-4 and saved a match point to tie the game 5-5. However, things did not favor the side of the Filipino aspirant and Lumsden successfully secured her ticket to the main draw of W100 Shrewsbury.

In the first round of the qualifiers, Alex Eala defeated hometown favorite Ranah Akua Stoiber, 6-3, 6-1. This is the first early international tournament exit of the US Open girl’s singles Junior Champion as she also tallied a new career high in ranking from sitting at World No. 248 climbing through World No. 214.

W100 Shrewsbury is a $100,000 ITF Women’s World Tennis Tour event bannered by No. 1 seed and WTA World No. 49 Anhelina Kalinina of Ukraine. The No. 2 seed is WTA World No. 70 Tatjana Maria of Germany, who reached the Wimbledon singles semifinals this year.

Last Saturday, Eala nearly missed the chance to get another tournament title in her young tennis career when she also suffered a defeat in the semifinals of W80 Rancho Santa Fe in California and dealt with a second round exit in the W60 Hamburg in Germany. With these defeats, Eala is still searching for her third professional title after she dominated the W25 Chiang Rai last April.

Alex De Minaur stuns Medvedev in a Paris Clash

Minaur made the Rolex Paris Masters memorable after he pulled a stunning upset over Daniil Medvedev

The Australian Tennis player roared back to clinch a dramatic victory 6-4, 2-6, 7-5 second-round upset in style at the ATP Masters 1000 event in France. De Minaur doubled his effort in this second round picnic with the 2020 champion and 2021 finalist with a combination of relentless retrieving and nerveless serving at big moments, saving 12 of 15 break points he faced.

“It’s a good one to get, for sure,” said De Minaur. “It’s the end of the year, everyone’s a bit tired, but I’m very proud of my performance. I just played very smart. I knew it was going to be a chess match out there, both baiting each other to be aggressive, but you also didn’t want to be too aggressive at times. It was an absolute battle and I’m very happy I was able to come out on top.”

With this victory, De Minaur booked his slot in the third round and was joined by Stefannos Tsitsipas who provided a convincing victory against Daniel Evans in the second round of the Rolex Paris Masters with a scoreline of 6-3, 6-4.
