Tottenham sacked interim coach Stellini after EPL rout

Tottenham Hotspur fired interim coach Cristian Stellini following the EPL club’s worst league loss since 2013 after their embarrassing 6-1 loss to Newcastle United on Sunday. Just one month after his former boss and head coach Antonio Conte departed his role, the 48-year-old manager managed to win only one of his four matches.

“Sunday’s performance against Newcastle was wholly unacceptable,” Spurs chairman Daniel Levy said in a club statement. “Cristian will leave his current role along with his coaching staff. Cristian stepped in at a difficult point in our season and I want to thank him for the professional manner in which he and his coaching staff have conducted themselves during such a challenging time.”

Spurs are now fifth in the table, with a very little chance of finishing in the top four this season. Ryan Mason will take Stellini’s place immediately. Mason took over as acting manager of Tottenham Hotspur after Jose Mourinho was fired in February 2021. After Conte’s departure, he worked with Stellini and is slated to head the squad until the conclusion of the season. Get more stories at onlinebetnow

Last month, Spurs announced that Antonio Conte has left the Premier League club “by mutual agreement” after serving as manager for 16 months. The Italian’s last game with Spurs ended in an outburst following a 3-3 draw at Southampton, accusing players of refusing to “play under pressure.” His contract expired at the end of the season.

Conte, who previously won league titles with Chelsea, Juventus, and Inter Milan, will join Spurs in November 2021, succeeding Nuno Espirito-Santo. He oversaw 76 matches for Tottenham, winning 41 and losing 23. Spurs were knocked out of both the FA Cup and the Champions League during his tenure, leaving them without a trophy for the first time since 2008.

During Conte’s last game as a coach, led 3-1 with 15 minutes to go at St Mary’s before they collapsed and let the league bottom team to make a comeback and secure a point in a thrilling game. The 53-year-old coach expressed his disappointment in an interview, becoming highly critical of his players saying, “I see selfish players, players that don’t want to help each other and don’t put their heart.

“Tottenham’s story is this — 20 years there is this owner (Levy) and they never won anything. Why?” Conte added in his last interview before being sacked as Spurs coach. “The fault is only for the club, or for every manager that stays here. I have seen the managers that Tottenham had on the bench. It is time to change this situation if Tottenham want to change.”
