Real Madrid thrashed Elche – as it happened

Los Blancos demolished bottom team Elche as the French international Karim Benzema scored twice in Real Madrid dominating victory.

This is a comfortable 4-0 victory against Elche for the reigning Laliga Champion and the 2023 FIFA Club World Cup Champion in preparation for their matchup in the round of 16 of UEFA Champions League. Marco Asensio scored first in the 8th minute of the match to start the triumph. The Ballon D’Or winner doubled the lead just after the half-hour mark, firing into the top right corner as Carlo Ancelotti’s side was looking to end this game in a demolition style.

The Frenchman surpassed Raul Gonzales as he scored his 229 goals, the former Real captain to become La Liga’s fifth highest scorer and second-best scorer in the league for Los Blancos, with Cristiano Ronaldo at the top with 311 goals. Then, in the first half stoppage time, Benzema tripled the lead through another penalty, as Rodrygo was fouled by an Elche player. Luka Modric, the Croatian international put a period on the demolition with his goal in the 80th minute from the edge of the box.

Elche had the chance to register a goal in the scoring sheet when defender Jose Angel Carmona had a precise pass in the 38th minute inside the box, but the powerful shot went wide past the net.

“We are all aware of our situation. For us, there are only finals left,” Coach Pablo Machin said in a press conference.

Elche remained the worst team in the La Liga table with 12 points and only a win in this current 2022-2023 campaign with no clean sheet in all of their 21 games so far. With this recent victory, Madrid cut the gap of the league-leader Barcelona to eight points in the La Liga Standings.

Karim Benzema’s trainer compared Ronaldo’s 2016/2017 to Benzema’s 2022/2023 scoring performance

Way back in the golden days of Real Madrid in the 2016-2017 season, both Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema were considered the best players in Los Blancos history, along with Gareth Bale, the Wales international, they are considered the scariest attacking trio in European football and they monikered as “BBC”.

Recently, Benzema’s trainer made some bold claims in line with the recent success of Real Madrid across all competitions. He claimed that even Ronaldo, who is known for his work ethics in the gym, couldn’t handle Benzema’s rigorous training: “Karim is getting better every day. He is at home, without having anything to do, and he goes down to the gym to train. The Frenchman’s mentality involves improving every day. Even Cristiano could not stand the training that Benzema does.”

Despite that bold claim, Benzema is still needed to catch miles and miles away in order to surpass his former teammate and pal as Real Madrid’s all-time leading scorer, though he is already 35, so this feat might be impossible for him to break.
