Manchester City won third Premier League crown in a row
Manchester City have clinched a third successive Premier League title after Arsenal lost 1-0 to Nottingham Forest on Saturday. The result means that City have an unassailable four-point lead over their rivals with just a game remaining. It is the first time that City have won three EPL titles in a row, and it comes after a season in which they have also reached the FA Cup final and the Champions League semi-finals.
“To have won this trophy three times in a row and five times in six years is incredible,” Manchester City captain İlkay Gündoğan said. “That quality and consistency helps sum up what Manchester City stand for and ensures the club will continue to strive for success going forward.” More football handicap, sports news and casino gaming tips here!
It is City’s seventh Premier League title overall, and their fifth in six seasons under manager Pep Guardiola. They are only the fifth club in English football history to win three top-flight titles in a row, after Huddersfield Town (1924-1926), Arsenal (1933-1935), Liverpool (1982-1984) and Manchester United (1999-2001 & 2007-2009).
It is also the third time that Guardiola won three league titles in a row as a manager, having done so in La Liga with Barcelona from 2009-11 and in the Bundesliga from 2014-16 with Bayern Munich. City’s title triumph was built on a strong defensive record, as they conceded just 27 goals in 35 games this season. They also scored 92 goals, which was the second-highest total in the Premier League.
City have been the dominant force in English football in recent years and they have shown no signs of slowing down. They have a squad full of world-class players and they are managed by one of the greatest coaches in the world. Erling Haaland alone has scored the most goals in a single Premier League season with 36, surpassing the previous record of 34 when he scored in the win over West Ham United.
City’s title win is also a major boost for the Premier League. It shows that the league is still the most competitive in the world, and that any team can win it. It will be interesting to see if City can make it four titles in a row next season.
The Premier League champions will hope to lift their first-ever Champions League title and their first FA Cup title since 2019 to become only the second English club to win the Treble first claimed by Manchester United in 1999. They will now face United in the FA Cup final on June 3 and Inter Milan in the Champions League final, which will be played in Istanbul on June 10.
