Both Sebastian Haller and Gio Reyna saved Borussia Dortmund as they combined for a late winner in a 2-1 triumph in Mainz. The host really did their homework on Dortmund following an intense victory of the guest side 4-3 over Augsburg last Sunday. For accurate and best experience in football prediction site click here!

Before the match, Bo Svensson made two changes to main, as his primary option Alexander Hack and Dominik Kohr was replaced by Andreas Hanche-Olsen, who now remarked his debut following the move from Belgian club Gent earlier this month, and the lone scorer in this match Lee Jae-sung. While Dortmund also had some changes made by Terzic after their win over Augsburg – Hummels was demoted on the bench and replaced by Niklas Sule, who also took over the captaincy and wore the captain’s armband. The youngster Jude Bellingham missed the game after picking up his fifth yellow card of the season. Emre Can serves as Bellingham’s replacement in the starting lineup.

This immediate change by Coach Bo Svensson did bear fruit quite quickly as Jae-sung Lee headed the hosts in front with a corner inside shot just two minutes of the match. But two minutes later, Dortmund responded through Julian Ryerson. The right back cuts onto his left foot and his shot, via Fernandes deflection, leaves Finn Dahmen with no chance – this is Ryerson first strike for the club.

Moukoko could have almost completed the turnaround when he was free inside the box, but he miserably fired wide with Karim Adeyemi unmarked in the middle. In the middle of the match, Dortmund learned that KoIn drew Bayern and gave BVB the chance to reduce the leader’s gap to five points. While Karim Adeyemi had a couple of wayward shots for the visitors, Mainz looked the more dangerous side and went close through Karim Onisiwo and Marcus Ingvartsen, who narrowly missed the target.

With game still tie, Terzic made some quick response with triple substitution, bringing Sebastien Haller, Gio Reyna, and Jamie Bynoe-Gittens to provide reinforcement and fires up his side’s attacks, however, it was Mainz who remained the more threatening as Angelo Fulgini should have done better than to curl a shot straight at Gregor Kobel before Aymen Barkok’s piercing volley fizzed wide. And when the game was appearing to end for a draw, Haller flicked on a corner and worked over defender and sent it to Reyna to poke in at the back post and snatch a last-minute lead and a win for the visitors.

Terzic expressed his happiness and had high praise to Haller: “Haller had a fantastic role today.” It’s a huge three points for Dortmund to survive a thrilling encounter that ended in a dramatic fashion. Just like against Augsburg, Reyna became the hero and Terzic’s side are now just five points behind Bundesliga leaders Bayern. The late goal is a bitter blow for Mainz, but Svensson should be glad with how his side battled throughout the match.
