Antonio Conte sacked as Spurs coach

Tottenham Hotspur has announced that Antonio Conte has left the Premier League club “by mutual agreement” after serving as manager for 16 months. The Italian’s last game with Spurs ended in an outburst following a 3-3 draw at Southampton, accusing players of refusing to “play under pressure.” His contract expired at the end of the season. 

“We can announce that Head Coach Antonio Conte has left the Club by mutual agreement,” Tottenham said in a statement. “We achieved Champions League qualification in Antonio’s first season at the Club. We thank Antonio for his contribution and wish him well for the future.” Conte’s assistant Cristian Stellini will be acting head coach for the rest of the season. More of this here at Onlinebetnow!

Conte, who previously won league titles with Chelsea, Juventus, and Inter Milan, will join Spurs in November 2021, succeeding Nuno Espirito-Santo. He oversaw 76 matches for Tottenham, winning 41 and losing 23. Spurs were knocked out of both the FA Cup and the Champions League during his tenure, leaving them without a trophy for the first time since 2008. 

“We have 10 Premier League games remaining and we have a fight on our hands for a Champions League place,” Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy said. “We all need to pull together. Everyone has to step up to ensure the highest possible finish for our Club and amazing, loyal supporters.”

During Conte’s last game as a coach, led 3-1 with 15 minutes to go at St Mary’s before they collapsed and let the league bottom team to make a comeback and secure a point in a thrilling game. The 53-year-old coach expressed his disappointment in an interview, becoming highly critical of his players saying, “I see selfish players, players that don’t want to help each other and don’t put their heart.

“Tottenham’s story is this — 20 years there is this owner (Levy) and they never won anything. Why?” Conte added in his last interview before being sacked as Spurs coach. “The fault is only for the club, or for every manager that stays here. I have seen the managers that Tottenham had on the bench. It is time to change this situation if Tottenham want to change.”
