Al Hilal reaches FIFA Club World Cup final

Saudi Arabia’s Al Hilal beat South American champions club Flamengo 3-2 to advance to the FIFA Club World Cup final. Saudi striker Salem Al-Dawsari, who scored the winner in Saudi Arabia’s 2-1 upset of Argentina at the 2022 World Cup, netted two penalties to win another big match at the Ibn Batouta Stadium in Tangier, Morocco.

“This is to history, Hilal,” the club wrote on Twitter. “Look where we are!” Aldawsari’s penalty kick gave the Saudi team an early advantage before Flamengo forward Pedro evened the score in the 20th minute. Flamengo‘s Gerson Santos da Silva was dismissed after receiving a second yellow card in the 53rd minute, while Al Hilal were given a penalty by the video assistant referee (VAR).

Aldawsari converted a second penalty kick. Luciano Vietto added a third in the 74th minute from close range to make it 3-1, and the 91st minute saw Pedro score for the Brazilian team. The Copa Libertadores failed to score for an equalizer, giving Al Hilal their first-ever FIFA Club World Cup final and becoming the first Saudi Arabian club to reach the Fifa Club World Cup final.

Saudi Minister of Sports Prince Abdulaziz bin Turki Al-Faisal reportedly offered a financial reward of SR500,000 ($133,268) to each team player following the win. Al Hilal will compete against the winner of the Al Ahli-Real Madrid game. More football predictions here!

These sides have previously met in the same phase in 2019, with Flamengo winning 3-1 before losing the eventual winners Liverpool 1-0. Real Madrid, the defending champions of the UEFA Champions League, and the champions of the host country, compete in the Club World Cup. Real won the title in 2014, 2016, 2017, and 2018, and they qualified for the Club World Cup for a sixth time.
