Underdogs T1 defied expectations at the League of Legends Esports World Cup 2024! After a surprising loss in the LCK split, they went on a tear, beating strong teams like Bilibili Gaming and Team Liquid. In a thrilling finals match, they took down the favored Top Esports with a convincing 3-1 score.

This victory not only earned them the championship title, but also a hefty $400,000 prize pool.

Adding to the celebration, legendary player Faker was named MVP of the tournament. This is no surprise considering his long history of dominance in League of Legends and his recent induction into the League of Legends Hall of Fame. Talk about a win-win for T1!

The Mobile Legends Mid Season Cup’s Group Stage was a wild ride! 16 teams battled it out for 5 days, with some surprising upsets and dominant performances during the Esports World Cup 2024.

Underdogs like HomeBois and See You Soon secured their spots in the Playoffs. But giants like Fnatic ONIC and EVOS Glory were sent packing, effectively cutting off Indonesia for the rest of the tournament.

The most in-form team right now is Selangor Red Giants, who haven’t lost a single game since their regional tournament began! They’ll be a tough opponent to face in the Knockout Stage, which kicks off July 10.

Call of Duty Warzone 2024 (July 3 – 6)

Team Falcons soared to victory in the Call of Duty Warzone EWC tournament at the Esports World Cup 2024! This Saudi Arabian squad of Biffle, Shifty, and Soka dominated the competition, racking up an impressive 137 eliminations over eight games. They even managed a crazy feat in the Group Stages – winning all four of their games in a single day, a first for any LAN event!

This hot streak continued into the Grand Finals. In an epic Match One moment, Soka went down heroically, reviving Shifty just in time to secure a crucial second-place multiplier. Overall, Falcons maintained their lead, finishing 20 points ahead of Fnatic to claim the championship title and a hefty $200,000 prize.

The cherry on top? Shifty’s MVP award and an extra $50k for his stellar performance, that’s what—making him one of the best Call of Duty players to date.

Dota 2 Riyadh Masters 2024 (July 4 – 7)

Now, let’s switch things over to Dota 2’s Riyadh Masters, which took place in the Esports World Cup 2024!

Blacklist International, the only Filipino team in the tournament, just had a monster run in the play-in stage. Not only did they qualify for the group stage, but they absolutely dominated their opponents.

We’re talking clean 2-0 victories over China’s powerhouses G2 x iG and LGD Gaming, and even Virtus.pro from Eastern Europe! Sure, they dropped a match to Entity from Western Europe, but one loss is a small blip on the radar compared to this win streak in the Esports World Cup 2024.

It’s been a tough road for Blacklist since their victory at the Asia Pacific Predator League earlier this year, but this is exactly the kind of performance they needed to turn things around.

EWC 2024 Club Championship

Tournaments in most eSports genres out there aren’t the only things cooking up in the Esports World Cup 2024! Along with the tournaments is the race for the Club Championship title. Brand new and unique to EWC 2024, this prestigious award goes to the best overall club based on points earned throughout the 8-week competition

The requirement? A club just needs to be in the top 8 of at least two tournaments, but to win, they must secure at least one first-place finish.

Every tournament awards the same amount of points, so consistent performance across all games is key. There’s a massive $20 million prize pool up for grabs, with the top club taking home $7 million! If there’s a tie for first place, the number of individual first-place finishes will be the deciding factor. Otherwise, head-to-head points from direct matches will break the tie.

There are already a bunch of clubs making waves so far after the first week of the Esports World Cup 2024. Heavy hitters like Team Falcons and T1 (not surprising after their respective tournament crownings!) take the first two spots for now.

But anything can happen in Week 2, which we’ll talk about in the next section!
