United States men’s national football team has been eliminated and will miss the 2018 World Cup in Russia after their 2-1 loss to Trinidad and Tobago.
USMNT needed just a draw to qualify but they failed to come back from two goals down against Trinidad and Tobago at Ato Boldon Stadium.
It was 2-0 in the 36th minute of the match in the first half after an Omar Gonzalez own-goal followed by the strike of Alvin Jones before Christian Pulisic gave the U.S. a goal in the second half.
The US started the match in the third qualifying place but ended up fifth after losing 2-1.
The defeat means they are the first American group that will not make the World Cup since 1986.
“We had everything there for us. We failed on the day. No excuses. We failed today. We should have walked off this field with at least a point. We should not be staying at home for this World Cup and I take responsibility.” U.S. coach Bruce Arena said
