FC Barcelona maintained their 100% record in the 2017/18 La Liga season by beating RCD Espanyol with an emphatic 5-0 victory at Camp Nou.
Thanks to the Five-time Ballon d’Or winner Lionel Messi who scored the opening and getting the first three goals for the club over Espanyol.
Messi is now the all-time Catalonian top scorer with 16 after his unbelievable performance in the match with goals in the 26th and 35th minute of the first half and then in the 67th minute of the second half.
In addition, Gerard Pique’s header made it to 4-0 with three minutes left before the club-record £96.8 million signing Ousmane Dembele, who came off the bench as a second half substitute, made an assist to Luis Suarez to complete the 5-0 victory.
After the match, Barcelona coach Ernesto Valverde hailed and praised Messi.
“I am happy for Leo who scored three goals and is extraordinary. We pulled through a complicated game, because these kinds of matches are always tough. Despite the result, it wasn’t easy. Espanyol fought very well, but we have great players like Messi, who scored three goals, and Suárez, who gave everything like the rest of the team.”
