Cristiano Ronaldo led Real Madrid with 2 goals in UCL opener

After being suspended in La Liga for pushing a referee, Portugal superstar Cristiano Ronaldo returned with his first competitive start of the season to put on a show in the Champions League Group stage.

Ronaldo scored twice to help the title holder Real Madrid open their Champions League campaign with a comfortable 3-0 win against Apoel Nicosia at Santiago Bernabeu.

The 32-year-old forward needed just 12 minutes to open the scoring board in the first half coming from Gareth Bale’s assist then made it to 2-0 from the penalty area early in the second half after a handball call over APOEL left-back Roberto Lago.

In the 61st minute of the match, captain Sergio Ramos extended Madrid’s lead to 3-0 to put Zinedine Zidane’s squad top Group H.

Right now, Ronaldo take his Champions League career scoring to a record 107 goals.

Meanwhile, coach Zidane believes that Ronaldo could have scored four goals against APOEL if the Portuguese star has its form.

“[Cristiano] is the best in the world. He is always there, always scoring goals. If he had been on form today, he scores four. We know what Cristiano can do. We are happy with the second half, and with the clean sheet.” Zidane expressed.
