Antonio Conte’s Chelsea returned to the UEFA Champions League with an excellent performance as his men beat Azerbaijan’s Qarabag on Tuesday night.
“It was a good start, a perfect start for us,” Conte stated and furthered, “To play the first game of the Champions League, then to win with a good result, to score many goals, to finish the game with a clean sheet. I saw a lot of positive things tonight.”
It was Chelsea’s forward Pedro who opened score quickly after firing home forcefully five minutes after the game kicked off. His goal also marked as his first for this season.
Davide Zappacosta, who made his Champions League debut at Stamford Bridge, doubled his side’s advantage by slotting home at the 30th minute.
Shortly after the break, Cesar Azpilicueta powerfully headed Chelsea’s third goal from Cesc Fabregas’ cross.
Newly signed Tiemoue Bakayoko and Michy Batshuayi also made their respective first goals at the latter stage of the game before Maksim Medvedev struck an own-goal.
Chelsea boss expressed his satisfaction in the 6-0 thrilling match against Qarabag, “We made lots of errors and I accept we must play even better. But I am satisfied with the way we played.”
The Premier League champs are expected to host Arsenal on Sunday (check out the best betting odds).
