Former Chelsea striker Diego Costa is now ready to play after his return has been officially confirmed by Atletico Madrid.
Over the weekend, Costa was introduced as player of the club and presented at the Wanda Metropolitano Stadium.
With that, club president Enrique Cerezo was delighted to welcome back Costa to the club.
“The footballer who’s here today doesn’t need a presentation because Atlético is his home. Today, we’re giving the best possible welcome to an amazing forward, a wonderful person and a great friend: Diego Costa. My dear friend, welcome to what will always be your home.” Cerezo stated
Going back, the 29-year-old Spanish international had a pre-contract agreement for the La Liga club in September but he was unable to play because of the transfer window ban, which ended last January 1. 2018.
According to Atletico Madrid, Costa will be wearing jersey number 18 as he could make his debut when the team plays over Lleida Esportiu in Copa del Rey or also known as King’s Cup on January 4, Thursday (GMT +8).
Meanwhile, Costa thanked the club for unending support and effort to bring him back to the club.
“I want to thank the club for all the hard work they did to be able to bring me back. I’ve waited a long time for this. From the heart, thank you. I just want to play as soon as possible. I’m tired of training.” Costa said in front of 25,000 fans
