Christian Eriksen and Dele Alli scored in a narrow 2-1 win against the Saints at White Hart Lane last Sunday.
Eriksen’s strike was powerful, low and accurate to find the bottom corner of Fraser Forster’s net, while Alli’s penalty was efficiently dispatched after he had been fouled in the box by Steven Davis.
Southampton on the other hand has gotten flimsy as the club lost in-form striker Manolo Gabbiadini to injury in the first half. But team came out determined and vigorous as they enter the second stretch of the game.
Claude Puel’s men got back into the game through James Ward-Prowse. The English midfielder set up a low cross from co-player Ryan Bertrand as he slid shot past Hugo Lloris.
Despite cutting deficit at the 52nd minute, the saint failed to gain parity as Tottenham’s stern defenses held Puel’s men at bay.
The defeat has left Southampton at 10th spot in the domestic league chart. Also it can be recalled that the club has only beaten Tottenham once in their past nine league games and have only satiated in three victories in 17 Premier League visits to White Hart Lane.
On a lighter note, the recent match extended Spurs’ record of successive home Premier League wins to 10th time already.
