Toronto Raptors had a phenomenal back-and-forth game to edge the Detroit Piston with a 121-119 away overtime victory at the Little Caesars Arena.
All-Star shooting guard DeMar DeRozan led all the scorers with a monster 44 points, including his assist and a make shot by Fred VanVleet with 1.1 seconds to play, to lift the Raptors extend their winning streak to six games.
“I knew he (Fred VanVleet – 6 points, making just 2-of-10 FG) was gonna make it.” DeRozan said regarding with his trust to his teammate as he pass the ball for a tiebreaking jumper.
In addition, Kyle Lowry added 15 points, 15 assists and seven rebounds while Norman Powell finished the game with 17.
With the result, the Raptors became the first team to clinch a playoff spot in the 2018 NBA Playoffs this season.
In fact, it is also their fifth straight playoff berth as they lead being the top seed in the Eastern Conference.
“We need to be hardened and face some adversity. Tonight was one of those tests. I think each game we go into, everybody’s going to give us their best shot.” Toronto coach Dwane Casey stated
Meanwhile, Blake Griffin led Detroit with 31 points while Reggie Bullock added 21 points and suffered their four consecutive defeats as they battle for the playoff picture.
Detroit has the chance to win the game but Griffin, who brought the team to overtime, missed a 3-pointer in the final possession.
Moving forward, they are now going to host the Chicago Bulls while the Raptors will go home to welcome the red hot Houston Rockets at the Air Canada Centre.
