European soccer is back in action with exciting matches and results in the Carabao Cup as the Saints made an impression with a narrow win against League 1 side Lincoln City 2-1. This is also the first game for Nathan Jones as Saints Boss and he made it very special as he guided Southampton in a victory. Despite a small number of attendance in St. Mary’s stadium provides a bit of an underwhelming performance for Southampton despite Che Adams having a fantastic game day as he scores a double goal to lift Jones’ side with a win and a berth to the quarter-finals of the Carabao Cup.

The match went into early action as Bazunu committed an own goal at the 2nd minute of the match, giving the visiting League 1 squad an advantage. However, Che Adams scores in the 25th minute to level the game. Southampton dominated the possession with 69% in their favor compared to Lincoln’s 31%. This two-goals victory served as the first time for Southampton to score more than a single goal since their stunning victory against Chelsea last August. This is also the club’s first time reaching the quarter-finals since 2017, when they lost against Manchester City in the finals.

“I’m not happy with how tight it is, but Lincoln is a well-drilled side. We needed to be more clinical and show more quality in certain moments and if we’d done that we would have won the game a lot sooner,” Jones said in an interview. “I’ll take the win because that is the important thing. It is something to build on. There were a lot of learning curves for me.”

Similar to Wolves FC, which also had a new manager taking over, Southampton also suffered the same – they struggled throughout the match, Bazunu caught under pressure and committed an own goal, while Che Adams took over and scored in the 25th for an equalizer. Then, the next 50 minutes of the match went dull and scoreless, before Adams once again scored in the 74th minute of the match to give Saints an advantage and victory later on.

The New Southampton Manager acknowledges the hard-fought victory but for him it is still not enough to settle as he aims to make his team a strong and legit contender in the Premier League, “We won the game. How many games have Southampton won this year? We’re trying to build something and we’re trying to win games. We’re not going to suddenly turn into Barcelona overnight. With the greatest of respect, we probably haven’t been doing the basics well enough up till now and that’s why we’re in the position we are, so we have to build.”

Nathan Jones assures to the organization, players, and fans that Southampton will get better in each game and hopes to qualify in the Champions League. But his organization, players, and fans need to have perseverance in order to improve their current bad standing in the English Premier League.
