Real Madrid cruise into the Champions League quarter-finals

Despite a problematic campaign in the Spanish League, Real Madrid proved to be strong as they faced and beat Ligue 1 giants, Paris Saint-Germain in order to cruise to Champions League quarter-finals.

Real star player Cristiano Ronaldo ensured to score twice in the first leg at home, which allowed his side to win 3-1 (get the best betting odds for bigger winning chances).

In the second leg, Ronaldo made his presence felt again when he headed in from Lucas Vazquez’s cross to extend Real Madrid’s lead against PSG.

The Saints, however, responded through Edinson Cavani who managed to pull a goal in the 71st minute.

La Liga’s playmaker Casemiro replied with a heavily deflected strike to cap off his side’s victory.

In a post-match interview Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane said: “We started very well, but we deserved the win. It was a tough match, they wanted to get through but they were up against a strong team and that perhaps made the difference.

“I must praise the players, they are the ones giving everything on the pitch. This is a tough crowd to come to, but the atmosphere is fantastic. We were focused and deserved to get through.”

Given the success, Real Madrid are now into their eight consecutive UCL quarter-finals and are on course to snatch third tournament title in a row.

Meanwhile, PSG are 14 points clear at the top of Ligue 1. The club’s recent campaign against Real has been the second successive term where they have gone out at the last-16 phase.

PSG manager Unai Emery, whose future in the club becomes uncertain said: “It’s true that Madrid deserved to go through and in the important moments of the game, they were better.

“They controlled 60% of the game and we didn’t do enough with the 40% we had. Losing to Real Madrid itself isn’t a disappointment, but being knocked out in the last 16 is

“Perhaps the first half was the key. In the last 20 minutes of the first half we were better. Over there [in Spain] we had the chance, it was 50-50, but we didn’t take advantage of that.”

Paris Saint-Germain’s upcoming battle will be against Metz on Saturday; while Real Madrid will play with Eibar in an away encounter (Sign Up to get the match previews and other Virtual Sports updates).
