Damian Lillard leads Portland past OKC Thunder, 118-115, to end the series 4-1

The Portland Trail Blazers are now heading to the Western Conference semifinals following their thrilling 118-115 home victory to eliminate the Oklahoma City Thunder from the NBA Playoffs.

It was Damian Lillard who drilled a game winning three-pointer from beyond the arc to seal the series to 4-1.

Words can’t describe the type of performance that Lillard put in Game 5. In fact, the All-Star point guard kept his team going with 34 points in the first half.

Overall, he scored a total of 50 points (17-33 FG, 10-18 3PT), 7 rebounds, 6 assists, 3 steals, and 1 block, including his 37-foot game winning three in front of Thunder’s star Paul George.

After he made the shot, the 28-year-old point guard waved goodbye to the Thunder before he was mobbed by his teammates with a wild roar from the home crowd.

“It was a great feeling. When it left my hand, it felt good. I felt good about it. Sometimes it’s your turn to go through something, and when you keep fighting, and keep working through it, and stay together, there’s a reward waiting for you.” Lillard stated after their huge victory

Portland coach Terry Stotts hailed Lillard’s performance as it was the best he had ever seen in person.

“The magnitude of the last shot – obviously to win a series, it was quite a performance.” Scott said

In addition, Blazers guard CJ McCollum, who finished with 17 points, stated that he wasn’t aware Lillard would take the final shot that far.

“I didn’t know he was gonna raise from 40. Then he raised from 40. I was like, ‘That’s a bad mother…’”

Meanwhile, Damian’s 50 points was a playoff franchise record while his 10 made threes mark the second-most three-pointers in a postseason game in the history of NBA, trailing Golden State Warriors’ Klay Thompson, who made 11 against Oklahoma City last 2016.

Moving on to the second round, the Trail Blazers will now wait for the winner of the Denver Nuggets and San Antonio Spurs series, which the Nuggets currently lead 3-2.
