Real Madrid leads race to land Bayern’s David Alaba, Liverpool also shown interest

Bayern Munich star David Alaba has been getting alot of attention to be acquired on a free transfer by the summer, with five clubs have been in contact with his agent over a potential deal, Spanish club Real Madrid leads the race, while EPL champs Liverpool also shown interest towards the defender.

The 28-year-old Austria international, who played for Bayern since 2008, is one of the most versatile players in football, having lined up at left-back and defensive midfield for the Bavarians, and also a left winger for the Austrian national team. Throughout the years, Alaba won nine Bundesliga titles and the UEFA Champions League title twice, including last season.

According to The Guardian, Liverpool are ‘pushing hard’ to have Alaba, but they also added the defender’s long held dream to play for Real Madrid and the Spanish giants are very much the favourites for his signature as things stand, putting Jurgen Klopp’s side behind already where Alaba would possibly land.

The La Liga champs have offered Alaba a long-term contract, acknowledged to be four or five years, hoping to convince Alaba to sign for them ahead of a host of other top clubs who are also interested.

A report from Goal.com stated that Real are keen on finalising a deal, but Alaba’s representatives have informed them that Alaba asking price for a wage of €13 million a season after tax.

That means that Alaba would be paid more than Real Madrid’s current top-paid player, Sergio Ramos (also a free agent to be) who is picking up €12 million a season. Madrid are more comfortable with a package worth €10 million.

There are no indications at the moment that a transfer would go through in January. Alaba is happy in fulfilling his contract at Bayern, as they currently sit at the top of the Bundesliga standings. One thing certain is that, regardless of who is leading the pack, Alaba won’t be staying in Munich beyond the summer.
